The Community Presbyterian Church

is a union congregation of two St. Maries churches - the Methodist Church, which was founded in 1900 and the Presbyterian Church, founded in 1912.

In 1943 the two congregations formed a federated church and met in the Presbyterian sanctuary at 830 College Avenue. This continued until 1952 when the congregations merged and formed the Community Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William Easson was serving as pastor at that time.

In 1963, under the leadership of the Rev. Winnfield Stevens, the congregation built the present sanctuary and Christian Education building. The sanctuary is designed for worship around the communion table. The circle of fellowship is composed of the congregation, the choir and the minister with Christ at the head of the table - represented by the cross. The huge cross was hand-hewn from a cedar log by Elder Jack Dittman and the table was hand-made by Rev. Stevens.

The rock for the walls came from the top of
St. Joe Baldy Mountain. It is one of the most

attractive sanctuaries in the Northwest.

The church exists to offer to all the love of God, shown in Jesus, the Christ. IT also exists to nurture and strengthen those who seek to know, worship and serve God. - to do so in ways that are both faithful to our best traditions and relevant to our present needs. Its fellowship is open to all, regardless of race, social position or religious background. We invite and encourage all to know and to serve faithfully God as revealed in Jesus of Nazareth.
